TOWARDS A NEWER AND GREATER DAWN: HONOURABLE LYNDA CHUBA IKPEAZU INDEPENDENCE DAY MESSAGE.
Ụmụnne mụ and my fellow Nigerians, Today we commemorate the 62nd year since we took charge of our affairs as a nation and our destiny as a people and kickstarted the journey of self rule and I admit that it has been quite a journey.
A journey that has seen us as a nation witness our fair share of ups and down, survived a civil war, reconciled and reintegrated, faced agitations from all quarters and the countless interruption of our democracy by the military, but we are here, together, diverse tongues and people but one nation.
We are battered but we are better and the things that stretched us, all made us stronger.
And it is this strength that we celebrate today as we mark our independence anniversary.
Reinvigorated by the widespread involvement of our people in the electoral process as we get closer to an election year, I am happy and pleased to see the next generation get involved in the process that selects our leaders and representatives and I must say 'kudos' to everyone involved, let's keep this flag flying high and this fire, this zeal, let's it keep it burning, even beyond the election, for if we all work together, the led holding their leaders accountable we will build the Nigeria that we all desire.
Our teething problems continue, but the promises of a new dawn shines forth and I would love to use this medium to plead with every Nigerian out there to drop the weapons of hate and anger, let's irrespective of our belief system or tribe, build a table of dialogue and peace for through thick and thin, this is our country and it is our collective mandate as Nigerians to serve our fatherland with all our strength and with love, to defend the unity of this nation, uphold her honour and glory.
I commiserate and condole with the families who have lost their loved ones in one way or another while calling on our security forces to ensure they live up to their mandate of protecting Nigerian lives and properties.
For the youths; our next generation, our new dawn, this nation is yours and no matter where you are in the diaspora or at home, you are Nigerian and this home, please, let's put hands together and raise the flag of this nation high, so that where my generation may have failed, you will succeed.
Please remember to put the leaders of this nation in your prayers and kind thoughts, may the Almighty bring succor to our bleeding land, wisdom to our leading hands and peace to all of us.
Happy Independence Day Nigeria.
May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
God bless the Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency.
God bless Anambra State.
May God bless us all.
Honourable Lynda Chuba Ikpeazu,
Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency.
